The Happiness Within You That Life Cannot Give or Take Away | Childlosshealing

I found something beneath the pain

I found something beneath the pain that I did not know was still there.

Not an idea.

Not a belief.

Not a sentence I repeated to make myself feel better.

A real inner experience.

A kind of happiness that did not come from life going well.

And when I first touched it, I realised something I had never truly understood before.

Happiness is not always something life gives you.

Sometimes it is something life has covered.

Covered by stress.

Covered by pain.

Covered by survival.

Covered by living too much in the mind.

For a long time, I thought healing meant getting out of pain.

I thought it meant understanding everything better.

Thinking through it.

Finding the right answer.

Finding the right meaning.

Finding the right way to continue.

And understanding can help.

But there are places within us that cannot be reached through understanding alone.

There is a deeper source inside the body.

A quiet center.

A place where happiness does not appear because life is perfect, but because something within us becomes available again.

For me, this was not rational.

It was experiential.

And that is why it changed so much.

The mind could not reach it

The mind can explain many things.

It can analyse pain.

It can create meaning.

It can remember.

It can protect.

It can try to understand what happened.

But the mind cannot enter the deepest center of your being by force.

That was one of the biggest shifts for me.

I realised I was not only looking for a better thought.

I was looking for a deeper state.

A different contact with life.

A place inside myself where something warm, alive, and quietly powerful could open again.

And this place did not open because I thought harder.

It opened when attention dropped deeper.

When the body softened.

When the breath became more real.

When awareness moved beneath the noise of thought.

When the mind was no longer the only place I lived from.

This is why meditation and awareness matter so much.

Not because they make you spiritual.

Not because they give you a new identity.

But because they can bring you into contact with something the mind alone cannot reach.

This connects closely to You Do Not Need a Quiet Mind to Begin Healing, where I explored how healing can begin the moment we stop trying to force the mind into silence and start noticing what is already moving within us.

A happiness that is not created by circumstances.

A source that was covered, but not destroyed.

Stress can hide your own light from you

Stress does not only make life feel difficult.

It can disconnect you from the very source that would help you move through difficulty.

When stress is active, attention moves to the surface.

The mind becomes urgent.

The breath tightens.

The body contracts.

The system begins searching for what needs to be fixed, avoided, controlled, or protected.

And when that happens, the deeper center within becomes harder to feel.

Not because it is gone.

But because attention has been pulled away from it.

Emotional pain can do the same.

A memory rises, and the body reacts.

A fear appears, and the mind starts moving.

A difficult circumstance becomes heavy, and suddenly your whole attention is wrapped around the story, the pressure, and the pain.

This is how we can lose contact with our own inner power without realising it.

We think life has taken everything from us.

And sometimes life really does take things from us.

Loss is real.

Trauma is real.

Emotional pain is real.

But underneath everything that can be shaken, there is a deeper place that can still be rediscovered.

A source.

A quiet power.

A light that can help you rise again.

This happiness became an engine

This is the part I did not expect.

This inner happiness was not just a beautiful feeling.

It was not decoration.

It was not something extra on top of life.

It became an engine.

I wrote more about this inner illumination in The Moment the Light Turns On Again, where awareness begins to meet pain not as something to escape, but as something that can be transformed in the light of presence.

A source of strength.

A quiet power that helped me move through valleys I thought would keep me down.

When this inner center opened, even a little, I did not only feel better.

I felt connected to something deeper than the problem.

And that changed how I stood in life.

How I breathed.

How I faced what was still difficult.

Not because the circumstances immediately changed.

Not because the pain disappeared.

Not because life suddenly became easy.

But because I was no longer only relating to life from the wound.

I was also connected to the source.

And that source had power.

Quiet power.

Not loud.

Not dramatic.

But real.

A kind of light returning from the inside.

And when that light begins to move through you, something changes.

You begin to feel:

There is still life here.

There is still strength here.

There is still happiness here.

There is still something within me that has not been destroyed.

Pain can cover the source, but it cannot become the source

Pain can be very convincing.

When you are inside it, it can feel like pain is all there is.

The mind becomes dark.

The body becomes heavy.

The future feels closed.

The inner world becomes smaller.

This is what emotional pain, loss, and trauma can do.

They can make it feel like the light has left.

But sometimes the light has not left.

Sometimes it has been covered.

Covered by fear.

Covered by stress.

Covered by the body trying to protect itself.

Covered by the mind trying to understand what hurt too much to understand.

And when you touch the inner center again, even briefly, you experience something different.

Pain is here.

But pain is not all of me.

Stress is here.

But stress is not all of me.

The wound is here.

But the wound is not the source of who I am.

There is something deeper.

Something more alive.

Something that can hold what hurts without being completely defined by it.

Pain can cover the source.

But it cannot become the source.

Inner happiness is not denial

When I speak about inner happiness, I do not mean pretending everything is fine.

I do not mean forcing positivity.

I do not mean avoiding emotional pain.

I do not mean bypassing the reality of loss, trauma, or life’s challenges.

Real inner happiness is not fake light.

It is not a mask over pain.

It is a deeper contact with life beneath the pain.

And because it is deeper, it does not need to argue with the pain.

Pain may still be here.

The body may still carry something.

The mind may still move.

Life may still be challenging.

But when the inner center is touched, you are no longer only inside the pain.

You are also connected to the place from which pain can be held.

That is the difference.

Pain without inner contact can feel like it swallows you.

Pain with inner contact can still hurt, but it does not erase all of you in the same way.

Because now there is also warmth.

There is also space.

There is also life.

There is also a quiet strength rising from within.

Returning to what was covered

You cannot fully understand this from the mind.

You can hear the words.

You can agree with the idea.

You can feel that it sounds true.

But the real shift happens when it becomes an experience.

When attention drops out of the head.

When the body softens.

When the belly becomes more alive.

When the breath returns.

When something quiet opens beneath the noise.

It may begin very simply.

One breath.

One moment of stillness.

One softening in the body.

One glimpse of warmth.

One quiet sense that something inside you is still here.

Do not underestimate that moment.

Because once you taste the source within you, even briefly, your relationship with life begins to change.

You no longer only look outside for relief.

You begin to know there is something inside you that can help carry you.

Something that can restore you.

Something that can become strength.

Maybe one of the deepest forms of healing is not only learning how to live with what happened.

Maybe it is rediscovering the life within you that pain could not fully destroy.

The light that can still rise.

The happiness that can still move.

The inner power that can help you stand again.

Because there is a happiness within you that life cannot give or take away.

And maybe the beginning is not to understand it perfectly.

Maybe the beginning is to become still enough to feel that it is there.
